Bike Shortages: The New Norm?

As you browse through website after website, you are sure to be finding that there is an extreme shortage of bikes nowadays. Beach cruisers, kids bikes, now even electric bike sales have increased significantly and there are very very long wait lists for them. So much so that suppliers are having to close down in order to catch up with fulfilling their orders.

Folks are finding ways to get out of the house and it seems that biking is the new favorite activity. Can you blame people? It’s a safe mode of transportation. It’s a fun way to get exercise too. Throw in great entertainment for kids and you’ve got a winner. Heck, you could even go on a bike ride for date night. Looks like biking is the new norm along with bike shortages. The good news is that suppliers are still getting in shipments, you may just have to wait a while.

The New York Times reports “In April, New York announced that it would temporarily open 100 miles of roads to pedestrians and cyclists — a move that may lead to permanent closures, officials say. Oakland plans to shut down about 10 percent of its streets to cars during the pandemic, while Seattle said it would permanently close 20 miles of roads.”

Make sure to look up street closures in your area for listings. This can be a safe way to get out of the house to get some exercise and to stay connected to your community.

Be sure to check out our inventory of electric bikes for a fun alternative and check out this video  for some great tips before making that purchase. We have a shipment of beach cruisers coming in mid-July. Don’t miss out, pre-order now!
